Social media report in Palestine 2016

For the third year in a row, Concepts, through the “Social Studio” project, issued the annual report on social and digital media in Palestine, in partnership with Jawwal, Paltel, Bank of Palestine, Bashir Siksik, Al Nayzak, and the Palestinian Vision. And Burj Al-Luqluq Association.

The report for this year dealt with the most prominent statistics and figures of the Palestinian society on social and digital media, such as the rates of internet usage and social networks, compared to neighboring countries. In addition to the most prominent behavioral indicators on the aforementioned networks, and the different impressions about them. Then it moves on to review the most prominent pages and accounts of individuals, companies, and institutions on the social networks used in Palestine. And the widespread websites and electronic applications, the most prominent hashtags used, community initiatives, and finally the “Facebook accusation” about freedom of expression on social media.

This year, the report relied on a manual search process that lasted for more than 4 months, during which many notes, stories, and events were recorded, in addition to automatic searches that relied mainly on the “Haki” program as a research and analysis tool, along with other tools and references, that made this The report is very informative.

It is worth noting that this year’s report provides, for the first time, analytical data on users’ personal accounts, by using the “Hakii” program, which will be available for individuals to obtain through it a report on personal activity on social media, such as the number and quality of publications. , and the quantity and quality of interaction obtained by these publications.

As for the most important general results of the report, they can be summarized through the following video, and the points that follow:

  • 52% of Palestinian society is connected to the Internet.
  • One out of every 3 Palestinians is on social networks (35% usage rate)
  • Average internet speed in Palestine: 0Mbs
  • Social networking sites and websites are the main source of news and developments, followed by television channels, then radio stations, and finally printed newspapers.
  • The percentage of smartphone users accessing social networks increased to 55% of the number of users.
  • Jawwal and Paltel account for more than 70% of the market for cellular lines and ADSL home internet subscriptions.
  • 58% believe that social media has a positive impact on Palestinian society.
  • More than 23 people have been arrested on account of their activity on Facebook by the Israeli occupation security services
